During the visit to Varanasi Sadhguru wrote this unique story on Inner Engineering. Sadhguru is also well known as Siddha Tantrik Kalicharan in Varanasi.
Story | Varanasi | January 16, 2000
In a quiet village cradled by sacred hills, where rivers murmured ancient secrets and the wind carried whispers of forgotten wisdom, a young seeker named Matulimaya embarked on a journey beyond the known. Driven by a recurring dream and an insatiable longing, she outlined in search of an inner flame—a light that would unveil the ultimate truth. Guided by the wisdom of Siddha Kalicharan and the teachings of Nath Yoga, Maya's path led her through trials, revelations, and an awakening that transformed not only her own life but also the hearts of all she encountered. This is her story—a tale of self-discovery, perseverance, and the eternal flame that dwells within every soul.
A young seeker named Matulimaya lived in a village nestled between sacred hills, where rivers murmured ancient secrets and the wind carried whispers of forgotten wisdom. She was unlike the others in her village—her heart pulsed with an insatiable yearning, a longing she could not explain. While others toiled in the fields or busied themselves with daily chores, Maya found solace beneath the great peepal tree near the riverbank, gazing at the stars, and listening to the silent wisdom of nature.
Since childhood, she had dreamt of temples shrouded in mist, of voices calling her to hidden truths. Each night, as sleep embraced her, she would wander in a realm where time and dreams intertwined. One night, she heard a whisper, more vivid than any dream before:
“Seek the flame, a light within, where angels tread.”
Matulimaya awoke with a start. The words echoed in her soul, setting it aflame with purpose. She knew she had to leave her village and embark on a journey to find this flame—the truth her heart had always longed for.

Matulimaya awoke with a start. The words echoed in her soul, setting it aflame with purpose. She knew she had to leave her village and embark on a journey to find this flame—the truth her heart had always longed for.
The Journey Begins
With the first rays of dawn, Matulimaya set forth. She walked through dense forests where ancient trees loomed like silent sages. She crossed valleys that whispered forgotten hymns and climbed hills that kissed the sky. The path was arduous, yet her determination burned brighter than her weariness.
One evening, she arrived at the base of a towering mountain, atop which sat an ashram, a place of spiritual learning. The air was thick with the scent of incense, the wind carried the murmurs of mantras. The ashram gates stood open, welcoming all who sought wisdom. She climbed the steps, her heart pounding with anticipation.
At the entrance, she was greeted by a Siddha Kalicharan, a man whose presence radiated a serene, boundless depth. His gaze seemed to pierce through her very being, seeing not just the body that stood before him, but the soul that yearned for truth.
“What brings you here, child?” he asked.
Matulimaya bowed respectfully. “I seek the flame within. A voice in my dreams told me to find it.”
The Siddha Kalicharan smiled knowingly. “Then you are ready for the path of Nath Yoga, the ancient way of inner awakening.”
The Path of Nath Yoga
Under Siddha Kalicharan's guidance, Matulimaya immersed herself in the teachings of Nath Yoga. She learned the art of pranayama, the sacred breath that connected her to the life force. She mastered asanas that aligned her body with cosmic energy. She meditated for hours, diving deep into the silence within.
Days turned to weeks, weeks into months. Through discipline and devotion, she felt subtle shifts within her consciousness. Yet, the deeper she went, the more her fears and doubts surfaced. Shadows from her past, illusions of the mind—each tested her resolve.
One night, as she sat in meditation beside a sacred stream, despair crept in. “What if this journey is in vain? What if the flame is but an illusion?”
As if hearing her turmoil, Siddha Kalicharan's words echoed within her:
“In darkest hours, shines the light.”
With newfound strength, Matulimaya surrendered to the silence. In that moment of stillness, a revelation dawned upon her—the flame was not a distant goal but a presence that had always been within her.
The Revelation
One morning, as she meditated atop a mountain peak, a divine vision unfolded before her. She saw the universe as a vast cosmic dance, each being a flickering spark of the same eternal flame. The illusion of separation melted away. No longer did she feel bound by the limitations of ego—she was the flame, the light, the love that permeated all existence.
Tears of bliss rolled down her cheeks. She had found what she sought, not outside, but within.
The Return
Matulimaya descended from the mountain, her heart brimming with light. She returned to her village, not as the seeker who had left, but as the luminous presence that had awakened.
She shared her wisdom with those who would listen, not through words alone, but through the silent radiance of her being. To the farmer, to the weaver, to the child playing by the river, she gently spoke:
“The journey’s end, the journey’s start, is in the love within your heart.”
Her tale spread beyond the village, reaching distant lands. Many came seeking her wisdom, and in her presence, they too felt the flame ignite within them.
And so, the story of Matulimaya’s quest became a beacon, a timeless tale whispered by the wind, carried by the rivers, and inscribed in the hearts of all who longed for the light within.
For in every heart, the flame does dwell, A silent spark, an inner engineering. Awakened by the seeker's quest, The light of love is forever blessed.
